The first four seats to the left of the big blind are collectively called Early Position, which is often abbreviated as "ep" in shorthand or internet poker conversations.
Seat 1: Directly to the left of the button. We all know the names of the blinds, but you have to start somewhere. The small blind, though it acts second to last on the opening round, has to act first in every subsequent round.
Add to that the fact that you have to pay money blind for the privilege of sitting here makes this the worst position at the table.
Seat 2: Directly to the left of the small blind. Paying double the small blind is bad, but at least you have position on one person at the table, and you get to act last pre-flop.
Still, having to put money in blind guarantees that you will always be a long term loser in this seat; you just have to try to lose as little as possible.
Seat 3: Directly to the left of the big blind. Names: Under the Gun , First Position rarely used. The term under the gun didn't originate with poker.
If not, it is better to fold and wait for your next turn. Late positons in poker is the position of poker players from hijack seat to the player sitting at the button.
That is, the last three players who take in the betting round for a 9 or 10 players table. Being in the late positions in one of the best possible poker positions to be at.
You will have the highest advantage compared to the other players. In late positions, you can observe the players sitting at both the early and the middle position and play accordingly.
Also, if you are in one of the late positions, you will have a higher chance of bluffing players sitting in other positions. Dealer Button position is the best position to be at in a poker table, since you always end up playing last in each of the betting round.
These were the three different positions in poker where you can be positioned at. In short,when there are 9 or 10 players involved, being in early position is disadvantageous compared to be sitting in one of the middle or the late positions.
And being in one of the late positions is one of the best possible table positions in poker for a player. When there are only 5 players involved in poker, the number of table positions in poker becomes less.
When only five players are involved, the first player to take action other than the blinds would be the Hijack position.
Technically speaking, UTG becomes the Hijack seat in a 5 player poker table. In a player table, Small and Big blind takes the early position and Hijack becomes the middle position.
The Cut-off and Button takes the late positions when players are involved. Even in 5 player poker table, Dealer button will still have the most advantage compared to other seats.
But, the early positions will not be a bad position to be at compared to a 9 or 10 player poker table. So, you have the option to play much more freely even if you are in one of the early position.
You could say that small blind will still be the worst possible position even in a poker player table. When only two players are involved, the dealer button becomes the small blind and the other player takes the big blind position.
When only two players are involved there are no good table positions in poker. Both the players have equal chance of winning.
When only two players are involved then the games being played between them is known as Heads Up. In a heads up game, the dealer button position becomes the small blind as well.
And the big blind player will be the first player to play between the two. Usually, the games between two players is fast paced and most of the games end up not being played.
That is, one of the two players end up folding their hands most of the time. These are the different table positions in poker when different set of players are involved in the game.

The cutoff is the first of two genuinely late positions where you can start expanding your opening range significantly. This is because now you only have one player that can have a position on you — the button.
Hands like A9o and A8o are more than good enough to open with unless you have a really tough player on the button who regularly plays back at you.
The button is always the best of all poker positions, so you need to be taking advantage of that fact by raising hands such as 85s, T6s, and even small suited connectors.
For early position opens, I would suggest playing very cautiously out of the big blind. So stay away from weak aces and trouble hands like KJo and QJo, because it could be hart to realize your equity.
Occasionally, you can defend with smaller pairs and stronger suited connectors. Apart from that, you can utilize 6-max charts when playing against later positions, since everything else stays the same as in shorer handed game.
However, sometimes there will be some extra chips in the pot added via poker ante. Poker ante is a mandatory amount that all players, regardless of their poker positions, have to post before the hand.
So, for example, players post a small blind , a big blind , and then everyone, including the small and the big blind, post additional 20 chips and add them to the pot.
Poker ante is more common in tournaments , but it is also found in some cash games, especially at the higher levels. You can look at the default charts and then adjust by adding a few more hands that are just outside of the range.
This is especially applicable when playing against the button and small blind as you already know these positions will be opening very wide to try and steal the pot, and you will be getting incredible odds to continue.
It is basically a third blind. Usually, it is twice the size of the big blind, and it is posted by the UTG player. Straddle changes the traditional order of poker positions because the UTG now effectively becomes the big blind.
The hijack player will be the first to act before the flop, while the UTG player will have the last action after the big blind acts. It is only before the flop that the straddle gets the last action but has to pay for this privilege as they have to post before seeing their hole cards, just like the blinds.
